Experienced in electrical fire investigation; Dave is experienced in determining cause and origin of fires (Car fire, truck fire, building fire) for forensic purposes. For other purposes, Dave has determined the cause and corrective action of many electrical system failures that did not necessarily result in casualty loss or extensive fire damage.

Education and experience; Electrical engineering education, experience and credentials (BSEE-Clemson University-1972, decades of professional engineering experience, Professional Engineer registration since 1979, now in 48 states and territories, teach a courses in troubleshooting and in switchgear and control systems, has taken numerous continuing education courses.)

Field experience; Extensive field experience allows Dave to understand field wiring and also allows him to knit high-level technical knowledge with practical aspects of power systems. He has worked in several trades while in high school and college including the electrician trade. In Dave’s professional career, he has spent approximately one-half of his time in the field supervising installations and solving problems.

Root cause analysis expert; root cause analysis training and experience. Dave has received training while working for electric utilities then through a course at General Physics. We have developed and tested our own proprietary troubleshooting model within ANNA, Incorporated.

Troubleshooting expert; troubleshooting expertise; extensive experience in troubleshooting. Troubleshooting amounts to one-third of our revenue at ANNA, Incorporated.

Business Experience; MBA from the UVA-Darden school-1985 and Dave started ANNA, Incorporated in 1988. This training and experience allows an understanding of business that helps to see through the bias some interviewees may have in an investigation.

International Experience; Traveled to Latin, Asian, Scandinavian and European countries on troubleshooting and startup engagements and have worked with the local engineers, electricians and managers. Dave understands other cultures. He even speaks a few words of Spanish and is able to establish rapport with residents of other countries—this helps to get better information during crucial interviews.
Dave’s interpersonal skills applicable to forensic work and testimony include:
- Presence; Has a strong presence, deep voice, neat appearance and imposing stature (tall and slender)
- Calm; Very cool under pressure and can think on my feet; this helps to avoid allowing the opposing counsel to comb your testimony in an incorrect direction.
- Factual; Dave deals with the facts and lets the attorney use that information as a resource. He is well respected by opposing entities, even if they disagree.
- Clear; Dave writes and speaks clearly. He’s able to convey complex engineering concepts in an appropriate form for any reader or listener. Basically Dave loves to teach.
